Does mountain flying get any more hardcore than that?

As the title says: Have you ever seen anything more impressive than that in mountain flying?

Watch the following video and see when you recognise the “strip”. (It’s actually an official USFS landing strip in Idaho — apparently still maintained, but reserved for emergencies only).

Too bad they didn’t post a video of the takeoff! (The other three vids on his Vimeo account are also not bad.)

P.s.: The guy in the video also offers flight training, see http://www.techflying.com.

Oops, forgot about that one.

And that one:

This one’s not exactly mountain flying, but one of the tightest strips I’ve ever seen anybody land:

Not quite the Rockies but Greg Swingle has some amusing off airport videos.

Real mountain flying:

That Cub landing must be the most crazy landing I have ever seen. He didn’t even see the end of the plateau, and 10-20? Knots of side wind.

“Real” mountain flying is extreme gust, changing weather, waves, rain and snow, whiteout. Landing on small strips on calm and sunny days is something every microlight pilot does all the time.

1. the super cub is not a microlight
2. sure it’s real mountain flying…try landing on the top of a mountain in wind like that in your plane.

I’ve been into and out of Lower Loon in Idaho in a C180. That strip is only about 900 feet usable, and you’ve got to fly down a river valley on the approach. There was another guy there in a C206 when I went.
