I am going a 3 day trip (Thursday evening → Sunday evening) with my father to Scotland in (early) September
Planning to leave on a Thursday night to save some time. What’s a good place to land at night (If possible avoiding handling fees) ?
Then what places shouldn’t I miss ? The objective is mostly to do scenic flying (and stay in places where can enjoy scenery not too far from airfields) ?
Thanks!
Oban but you would need an out of hours permit
Looks like Inverness might be the first Stop actually, as I’ll need lights on Thursday night and they seem to have reasonable landing Prices according to James Chan’s table.
From there, thinking of visiting 2-4 other airports, Anything shouldn’t miss (Other than possibly Barra)
Also:
Plockton – a ten minute walk into the cute little town
Castle Kennedy – the gardens and castle are 15 minutes walk away
Coll ans Colonsay – nice walking around
Tiree – ten minutes walk to the sandy beach
Glenforsa – great scenery, without any walking required
Gigha – IMHO one of the most beautiful of the isles but the runway is a little draggy
Bute is also very nice for walking
Lamb Holm – if you make it all the way up there
Dornoch – nice walk through the Golf course to the Castle
