We are planning to fly to Ostende and walk to the train/tram. Which way should we go up or down the coast? Looking for a town/village to stay the night, maybe hire bicycles.
Many thanks.
The entire Belgian coast is served by the coastal tramline. The nearest stop is near BZIO hospital. Towards the sea and to your right when leaving the airport. You can buy tickets via smartphone.
I suggest you try to find accommodation before starting your trip.
Plenty of choice when you take the tram (nearest stops, as above BZIO or “Oostende Raversijde”).
F.I. nearby “De Haan” is a nice small coastal town, will take 40mins, with a tram swap or stop at Ostend Railway station.
Ostend itself worth to discover.
Bike (electric-) rental available in city centre : ginocarts.be (dutch website only). Bus line 6 takes you from the airport terminal to the city centre in 20mins, frequency 4 per hour.
During high season (and nice weather) lots of hotels will be nearly full.
