That stream is “secret” although Garmin do let it out under an NDA.
Presumably their own uncertified boxes can do it?
This is relevant to anyone wanting to install the Avidyne TAS605A but does not have a GTN or IFD navigator.
Garmin GPS20A. Meets FAR91.227 but is not TSO’d for certified aircraft.
Interesting – thank you!
Nice price… €900+VAT. Total parts cost under €50

For the Avidyne TAS605A market, there should be a market for a much cheaper ARINC429 output box. You don’t need an NDA with Garmin to make one.
I wonder if the Trig TN72 could be used. It certainly won’t do the US ADS-B OUT mandate but on the TAS605A you can disable GPS quality check so maybe it would fully work?

The antennae for the above boxes come to 400+ but in reality all you need, with a high grade commercial receiver, is something like this.
I was about to post about the TN72. From what I can tell: the TN72 is certified but has no SBAS (The opposite on both statements for the Garmin.)
Which is strange, as Trig’s own antenna, TA70, is a “WAAS GPS antenna” according to their website.
Maybe Trig will release an upgraded version of the TA72 with SBAS?
I had some comms with Trig about the TN72. See here and here.
But the above is regarding ADS-B OUT. If I was doing ADS-B OUT I would want it visible on Garmin kit, which suppresses SIL=0/1 emitters.
This is really about GPS sources for ADS-B IN. I have no idea whether a TN72 will be good enough for a TAS605A. One could test it, but it would take a day’s messing about. The 605A has a config option for ignoring GPS quality, but it will not accept plain old NMEA. It still wants that “Garmin NDA” data stream. Or ARINC429…
If you are going to build a GPS source for the 605A, and assuming Garmin won’t give you their spec unless you are some sort of a bona fide avionics firm, ARINC429 is the way to go. But the market will be non-certified aircraft.
A “WAAS antenna” is prob99 just a labelling exercise to extract more money. It is needed for certification reasons.
A Flarm device such as the AT-1 can output traffic info (i.e. ADSB-in as well as Flarm in) to a Garmin device. Please see appendix C of the installation manual: https://www.air-avionics.com/?page_id=401#
Could that suit your purposes?
If I am not mistaken the AT-1 can also send the info to an ipad (e.g. for Skydemon or similar.) I’m not using any of this, as I have the trafic info on the display and that’s sufficient for my purposes, therefore cannot really comment on that.
Yes we did the AT-1 e.g. here. It’s quite a big box and later work – example – suggests that the TAS605A will pick up and output SIL=0 and SIL=1 targets just fine, which made a separate ADS-B receiver superfluous.
If one wanted to merge in FLARM etc targets, then things would change, but I am not proposing that now.
