Cool things airline pilots do

On my flight to Nairobi from livingstone, the pilot did a good 15 min detour, circling the falls on left AND right orbit so all passengers could have a good look!

Plane was and Embraer 190 so a bit larger than a caravan! And costlier to operate too

They didn’t even send a tip jar, but got 2 large rounds of applause!

Years ago, a Singapore Airlines crew on its way from Sydney to Singapore called the Olgas and Ayers Rock. Pretty nice from that altitude, particularly with long shadows cast.

Hopefully he didn’t get fired. See Proteus Airlines Flight 706 for some other unpleasant possibilities (Mayday / Air Crash Investigations available as well, episode 5 from season 16).

LSZH, LSZF, Switzerland

Although this is probably Kenya Airways, SAA used to be a great airline for that. Years ago when I was working a lot in Africa, I flew on them all the time. Remember a 360 around Mt. Kilimanjaro, a fly-by of Cape Town, a race between two 747s from Nairobi to Jo’burg with running commentary from the cockpit…. Always enjoyed flying on them, although haven’t had the pleasure in many years now.
