NOTAMs on temporary airspace deactivation

There is some stuff here Local copy – previous URL is likely to have new content by the time you read it on what can bite you badly.

I have always been concerned about misreading the Solent (EGHI) version. If you get it wrong you will be busted by the CAA because EGHI MORs everything.

How do flight planning apps deal with ambiguous wording?

Generally the apps simply read the Q line from the NOTAM. This gives the centre and radius of a circle. If your flight enters this circle then the NOTAM should be part of your briefing. The Q line lists the start and end of the NOTAM, not the period for when the content is active for.

NOTAMs were never really designed for apps.

Personally I would argue that NOTAMs covering activities for period of days should have a separate NOTAM issued for each day the activity takes place. While this would increase the number of NOTAMs in the system, it would reduce the NOTAMs in your briefing as it would only appear if it affected your time/date of flight.
