How to get cheap handling in Spain

Hi,

A guide has been published in Spanish:

https://realaeroclubdeespaña.org/handling/

Courtesy translation:
https://translate.google.es/translate?hl=&sl=es&tl=en&u=https%3A%2F%2Fxn—realaeroclubdeespaa-d4b.org%2Fhandling%2F

Basic service 9,16€+VAT when in or out the apron. So 18,32€+VAT for the whole service.
This applies for Valencia, Ibiza, and all other AENA airports where GA is allowed.

Good thing you post this now after having paid 186 euros in LEMH on Monday ;-)

Just read this via google translate. The translation is a bit poor. Anyway, the way this is written, it still sounds like a hostile minefield.
If I understand correctly, first of all, one has to pay attention to chose the “right handling agents”, because some other may not conform to AENA guidelines and therefore don’t feel compelled to conform to the AENA rates, right?

Why doesn’t AOPA publish (and keep updated) a list of handling agends that have PROVEN to apply this correctly? After all, Spain doesn’t have so many airports. Before I have such positive pirep, I personally wouldn’t fly to an AENA airport.

Also, if one is sure of having picked a “proper” handling agent from the list of proper ones on the AENA site, why would the pilot still have to get a quote in advance? And even carry it with you in paper form? They should be bound by the AENA pricing, otherwise why are they in the AENA list?

Isn’t this the same thing which has been around for a few years i.e. there is a law in Spain which says an airport must provide some minimum level of handling as an option you can choose?

Lots of previous posts, some linked here. And here. Also here.

The handlers hate this, of course, and the way they get around it is by forming a cartel at each airport where most of them simply do not reply to communications on this topic, leaving just one to deal with you, and that firm sets some level of “minimum” handling which is still quite high.

Or is this some completely new thing?

Hi. It’s the same thing as always. Of course they hate it and I avoid forcing it unless really necessary.
It is not possible to make any money as a handler by charging 9 eur per trip, so I prefer to negotiate the price to a reasonable 30-40 eur

If they are not very busy they will provide the service at the 9 eur price.Worst case you may have to wait 20 mins at the airplane for them to come. Easiest if you time yourself avoiding commercial aircraft.

Surely there must be a happy medium between 9 eur (actually twice that) and 120 eur…

AS always me striving to make GA sustainable for all involved…
