Your flying year, 2013

Clearly a man with a long term plan…….. :)

EGSC

The way the Dutch economy is progressing you need to take a long term view

EHLE / Lelystad, Netherlands, Netherlands

Night hours: 1
Landings: 240
New aircraft types: 5

So not a bad year at all, despite the bad weather at it’s beginning. Hopefully, the rest of December has some good weather in my free time.

68.4 tach hours in the Jodel 1050 so far. Dual night check out in a Pa28.
I’m hoping to do more after 19/12. My medical ran out on 9/12, and I thought I had everything organised – but the CAA require data from my GP – and the most important blood sample had dried out on the way to the lab, so I had to give another. With the wind here, I’m missing nothing.

An average, and good year.

166.8 total time on 7 different aircraft of different types,
108 hours of amphibian water flying,
20 hours or so of night flying,
3 hours of multi.
All flying actual VFR.

Longest trip, California to Toronto in a 182RG – 13.6 hours
The first: Test flew the first piston powered Cessna ever with reverse thrust.

Home runway, in central Ontario, Canada, Canada

Pilot DAR: Is that the 182 on floats? I have seen videos but couldn’t find any further info on line. Do you have any links to its design, certification?

London Area

141.2 total, all multi engine. About half on the Aerostar and half on the Commander.

My Commander has now been sold. Although still siting in my tie down spot, she’s now out of annual and awaiting a ferry flight to Russia ( ). I did keep her juices going for the new owner for about 2 months by flying her at least 30min/week. But now that she¨s out of annual I’ll have to just taxi her around once in awhile. I did record my last flight in the Commander on YouTube and reminisced about her and the times we had together, ending with a low pass at home airport:

Interesting. There seems to be a clear pattern in the posts.

I’m at 146 total, incl 102 ME on the DA42.

Seems like ~150 hrs / yr is the general number for people who…

1. Own their aircraft 100%

2. Have a full time job/run their own business

3. Try to fly as much as possible

4. Don’t fly professionally

5. Don’t use their own aircraft for business travel or commuting

At the beginning of this year I fully anticipated being closer to 250. But life outside flying creates a fixed demand on your time. It seems like 150 hrs/year is a hard limit. (for non-US at least)

Not as impressive as some.

So far this year 85 hours, albeit 11 types, 4 new to me.

Hopefully another 5-10 over the christmas break however.

I noticed that too – it seems to hover around 150hrs/year for owners. I personally could probably bump that up a bit for business when I get my IR, as I now travel on airlines for a lot of it. It’s hard to meet schedules when you have to go VFR. I think with the IR I could potentially get to about 200hrs or so, but probably not much more. Time will tell..
