ICAO / FAA PPL to EASA PPL

@Dan_B frustration is understandable, having the rug pulled out from under your feet just as you get to the last step in the process. Bad form on the part of the Belgian authorities to not publish this without sufficient lead time for you to avoid unnecessary effort and expense. Sounds like a cost-saving measure to me.

In itself, I suspect the FAA isn’t too interested in this as Belgium being part of EASA there are alternatives. Could be of more interest if is were an ICAO country not part of EASA. In any case, conversion is not the same as recognizing the exercise of rights and privileges of an FAA licence.

Just a guess, but Austria might be a place to try. Some UK airlines have moved their pilots’ UK licences en-masse to the Austria competent authority in preparation for Brexit, so the Austrian authorities are clearly set up and resourced to handle that sort of thing. Moving an EASA licence from one authority to another isn’t exactly the same thing as converting an FAA licence, but your chances to have your existing effort recognized might be intact if it has all been completed recently.
