N-reg aircraft and European / EASA licenses / licences (merged)

Let me add that I have a couple of copies of the old FAA FAQ here (search for FAQ).

There are various stories as to why the FAA removed it from their website.

Is it possible to fly N reg in Europe without a piggy back US PPL? In other words do the FAA regard EASAland as one country?

No.

Mainz (EDFZ) & Egelsbach (EDFE), Germany

that screwed up that idea then

You can fly N-tail within the country that issued your EASA license.

LFPT, LFPN

That bit I knew but I had hoped EASAland was now one big country

The references can be found here. See the FAA Chief Counsel opinions.

Even if the greatest Europhile dreamed it, it wont ever be one country. However, I believe the FAA have delegated some licensing aspects to local CAA type authorities, so its easier to get your piggy back license without having to fly to the US, or pay huge sums to individuals any more, so I’m sure its easier to get one than it has ever been.

How about this one: Can you fly outside EASA-land in an EASA-reg different from the country of your EASA license?

So for instance: Can you fly a D-reg on your UK license in Egypt?

Yes I have just done it, it is easy but not particularly cheap.
£44 to the CAA, £385 to the UK representative of the FAA, + traveling to meet said representative, + whatever you end up paying for an initial FAA BFR to validate it.
Also allow about 2 months.

Edit to say that was in answer to Peter Mundy not Hodja
