The actual situation was that the clearance to enter the CTR was already history at this point and the controller came round with the additional “instruction” to “continue and report field in sight”.
That’s if one is visual with the other aircraft, which 90% of the time one is not
In which case it should be something like “east of A5, proceed to November, Negative contact”.
