So it does! You learn something every day.
So this is the hills just to the east of San Jose, which burned about three weeks ago. As you can see nearly all the trees have burned, there are just a few pockets that haven’t. This is over an area of nearly 100 sq miles. I’m directly overhead the Lick Observatory on the summit, you can just see some of the auxiliary buildings. The installation there was saved thanks to heroic efforts by the staff and firefighters.

Years ago I sold my plane to a man from Hildesheim running a mineral oil business and I remember he told me that he somehow took over the fuel station at his home airfield because nobody else wanted to do it. Maybe we should convince him to take over more fuel stations…
