VFR flight planning issues

one of the leading VFR EFB providers in Europe simply does not want to be bothered by customers from those countries.

If you posted on one of the UK aviation chat sites, especially the one run by a magazine in which SD advertised[d], that SD is less than politely responsive to user input on the product feature set, you would have been hung drawn and quartered Fortunately EuroGA is not thus constrained. If we carried advertisements, this would have to change.

That is indeed true, but some countries deviate from ICAO in this respect.

Good to learn something new every day. I had no idea that in some countries you could put in the names of visual reporting points in the route.

Does anyone know which countries that allow/require to put in the names of visual reporting points in the route?

I think you can say that SD is reasonably responsive, but not politely so.

This is the Vienna VFR transit route, so far, so good. But why would anyone write all these points into a FPL? Am I missing something here?

In VFR flight in Europe, is the pilot required to be in contact with ATC via radio or are they assigned a transponder code? In the US, a VFR flightplan is primarily informational and not routed to ATC. The information is used for SAR if the pilot activates the flightplan and does not show up at the destination at the ETA +30 minutes and fails to close their flightplan. Is it different when country borders are crossed verses intra country VFR?

No requirement except of course for class D and higher airspace.

Just as in the US you can get Flight Following (called Traffic Information Service) in which case you would normally get a transponder code. Contrary to the US, VFR flightplans are distributed to ATC/ATS and in that case it may avoid you having to provide all details to ATC at every frequency change.

VFR flightplans are primarily for SAR but are required for crossing borders, large bodies of water or night VFR.

But some countries (like Greece, Spain, Croatia) require flight plans for VFR flight.

There’s also exceptions for the border crossing FP. Coming from Germany or other EU and Schengen countries no FP (or radio contact) is necessary when flying to Poland, the Czech Republic or Austria. A FP is only required for large controlled Aerodromes.

Not legally required for water, surely?

When you get into the details of it, the border crossing exemptions are worth little unless you fly between the same places all the time.

No, and (if in contact with ATC) a TXP code may be assigned. Default is 7000 (1200 in the USA).

Does Europe have any airspace E F G which is mandatory-radio for day VFR?

Why is that? There’s hundreds of small uncontrolled airports in these countries you can reach without a FPL. Actually I have never filed a FPL to Austria or CZ in 24 years.

That’s why
