One plane, and a spare plane kept for parts

Somebody in Australia is selling a TB10, plus another TB10 for cannibalisation.

I thought it was quite funny.

I wonder how many people are doing this. It may be more common with rare types.

Someone I know did exactly this with their car, buying a second Wankel-engined NSU because parts were so difficult to source

A friend of mine has a spare plane for parts, there are only eight of his type flying in the USA so when one was crashed and totaled some years ago he bought it… He also BTW got a lot of factory/importer records on each of the nine planes in the process. He’s had his (flying) plane since the mid-1970s and has put 3500 hrs on it himself so this is not a transient interest.

@Capitaine, a few weeks ago I saw a Wankel powered NSU going the other way on a local road here in the US. I don’t know if it’s the only one in the country (I somehow doubt it) but it’s surely the only one I’ve ever seen. I also saw the same car at a show last year and it is perfectly restored. I was surprised to see it out on a country road. I don’t think he has a spare car for parts, but he might!

This interesting article says 215 were sold 1965-1967, so there can’t be many left nowadays
