Google Maps removing images of parked airliners from some airports

Why are there no planes at Frankfurt airport?

When looking at satellite pictures from Google Earth.

United States

Fraport scared them away

LOL!!!!

The 3D view does not show 100% flat parking stands. I’d guess someone requested the planes be edited away, and some laser dots were left behind where the real planes used to stand.

They don’t want competition with Heathrow, Schiphol and Charles-de-Gaulle, the roads don’t show cars neither

Must have been a request under GDPR

But, seriously, what kind of perverted mind would have requested that google removes the aircraft pictures. The coordinates of the stands are public knowledge; they are published openly

But it cannot simply be a German thing because Munich shows them

but Berlin/Tegel has removed them

as has Schönefeld.

Now they will get half of UK plane spotters on the hedge trying to get an anwser that question

This is really bizzare. I wonder what is the motivation, and/or who ordered it?

Usually the retouching is obvious.

Some examples:

Frankfurt

Berlin Tegel

Grenoble

Does GDPR prohibit publishing images of jet airliners?

That is weird! And unlike with people, they aren’t just blurred, but effort has been made to replace the image with historic image when there was no aircraft there, so it doesn’t look totally obvious.

It’s only the parked ones they’ve removed, the ones taxiing have been left (and the Berlin one even has one on the runway, taking off or landing).
