Corona / Covid-19 Virus - General Discussion (politics go to the Off Topic / Politics thread)

If Majorca let in unvacced people, what did they expect? Did they really do that? N Europe has some way to go, especially with the demographic doing the Spanish holidays and close socialising.

Here in the UK it has finally been accepted that provided you are fully vacced, the virus spread is irrelevant.

This is a big mistake. Yes, you don’t get people in hospital or dying if they are vaccinated with a 80% quota (still 20% might) but they can still spread the virus. And that is why it will win the war. Only a strict zero covid policy could have prevented this and it is not being enforced. Thus, the new plague has arrived and will stay.

Clearly vaccinations provide some relief to this, yet there are still way too many who are not vaccined and others who won’t. Those people need to be singled out, vaccined and those who refuse need to be restricted in their lifes so they don’t endanger others.

UK vaccine acceptance is a lot higher than anybody expected based on opinion polls:

and it will get a lot better once vacced people get real advantages, which should start 19th July. Currently those not yet vacced have no immediately perceived incentive – other than “social responsibility”.

Well, I thought so as well. And here it is like that already, but still there are way too many who will refuse. We’ve got several at work and I have several (previous) friends who strictly refuse on the base that “big government” wants to control us via the vaccine. It’s the dark ages with superstition and stupidity all over again. Well, the plague took care of a lot of that, didn’t it just. 50% of the population gone?

I don’t believe in any of this rubbish, for me it is a medical catastrophe which was propagated by our lifestyle and cowardly politicians who did not have balls to act swiftly in winter 2020 and who have not grown balls since. But if you believe in a higher being who might be trying to teach mankind a painful lesson, it could not have been more striking…. show mankind it’s ugly face in the mirror, exposing the incapability to deal with crisis and punish by this. Not that it ever works…

Only that is entirely impractical. From the day SARS-CoV2 showed itself to be so spreadable, it was inevitable it would become endemic everywhere. You cannot “win” this war, you have to get to the stage where it is accepted as just another respiratory infection. The vaccine makes the actual numbers of serious cases comparable to the flu, and we don’t shut the world down for flu.

Well, maybe we need to re-think the whole travel idea.

90% of travel is non-essential. So maybe we need to restrict that, permanently, to countries which have high incidence or which are known to breed this kind of virus. And make the essential travel save by putting mandiatory quarantine at both ends.

Even inner European travel does not work as we can see. The risk is just too high to respread everything. The 4th wave is raging and nobody cares?

Maybe we shold shut down for the flu as well or at least impose measures in the flu season. I certainly would be all for it.

But to do garbage such as soccer games and worse, European championships with thousands travelling, and the like is criminal. No other word for it. And mass concerts and other gatherings. The world is truely mad.

Exactly. At this point we should really stop counting all cases and only count the cases that require hospitalisation. Also, the number of cases are now in many areas so low that the variations from week to week are within the statistical noise.

Why? Life isn’t risk free, and respiratory diseases is a risk that’s worth taking when the reward is an open, prosperous society. At some point if we keep closing society down due to these risks, and removing all the things that make life enjoyable, we are no longer living — just merely waiting to die instead.

Even though my own mother died of flu, I would consider closing society over it a huge and disproportionate overreaction to the risk.

Very true. This is the only plausible “endgame”.

From Monday I can travel to Sweden and get my Snus again Funny thing. In Storlien they built this huge mall thing for Norwegians shopping. It opened last Easter, and have hardly seen a customer since But now, finally well over a year, invasion can start

Personally I’ve had enough of this Corona thing now, delta or no delta. All “risc groups” are vaccinated, which was the goal all along. From now on all measures are pure nonsense and simply an effect of the momentum. It takes some time to stop.
