Corona / Covid-19 Virus - General Discussion (politics go to the Off Topic / Politics thread)

Just as fake as the “Switzerland is running out of beds” line when 6’000 were still available couple weeks ago.

And in England a 14 year old is taking legal action against the NHS because of waiting a year, with still no date set, for a gender re-assignment operation. A charity is funding the legal action. At 79.66, by signing a “do not resuscitate” form I might help the NHS avoid legal defense expenditure by getting such essential treatment done on time.

Unfortunately not fake. There have been several appeals for seniors to fill out forms to that effect to keep beds vacant for those who have “more life left in them”. There also have been reports of this going around retirement homes and other places where senior citizen live out their well earned retirement.

For me, this is the final insult in Switzerlands incompetent and criminal way of dealing with Covid 19. One of the richest countries in the world is asking their mothers, fathers to comit suicide by forgoing medical help in times of need, for which they have paid insurance for and for which they have every right just as the younger people who those people appear to think of more worthy to survive.

Apart from that, it does fit with complaints that the Swiss pension funds and state pension has lack of funds to finance our senior citizens and therefore, killing them off with Covid and self-declared denial of medical help is set to help that situation too. Yet again, it shows a total failure of those responsible in one of the richest countries.

Sorry. Switzerland has shown a total failure to protect, treat and lead its population in the worst crisis the country has had to endure since WW2, they have totally disqualified themselves as leaders, humans and professionals. They failed to lock down when there still was time and we would not have to think of triages, they still refuse to despite loosing people by the thousands every week, either a totally uncoordinated mess caused by incapable people or in some cases people who are openly comiting mass murder without anyone calling them to justice.

This may well be the beginning of the collapse of the system of government which has held for quite a while. But Covid has proven it incapable of dealing with crisis.

You might also save yourself a pretty unpleasant experience as you fade in and out of consciousness surrounded by people effectively beating you up and breaking your ribs. Overall your chances an in-hospital arrest to discharge will be less than 10%, and thanks to brain hypoxia the chances of being much like the person you were before will be lower again. At 80ish, your personal odds of survival / becoming a vegetable will be worse than average. If you arrest because of COVID then they will be worse again than if you arrest because of something straightforward like a heart conduction defect that can be fixed with a pacemaker.

Resuscitation can be wonderful for people whose hearts have stopped because of something simple and correctable – e.g. a heart conduction defect or a pneumothorax. It very rarely works on people whose hearts have stopped beating because they got sicker and sicker until they died. It is also very much an ‘aerosol generating procedure’ which puts staff at high risk. That’s one thing when there is a good chance of a good outcome, but taking futile risks is another matter.

Transgender teens have a very hard time and I wouldn’t begrudge any of them some specialist psychological input. Or you could put the cost of a night in intensive care and having someone certify you as brain-dead in the morning towards giving healthy school meals to a kid for several years. Or you could reduce healthcare expenditure in favour of tax cuts, and spend the money saved on a good holiday.

I would fully agree – if and only if I lived in the country you are obviously living in, where some kind of “social flying service” pays for every upgrade of the plane you want. I seriously consider moving to Norway now.

For the rest off us, the Covid-vaccination is most likely more or less free while a chute upgrade for our plane would be in the 50k+ range. And before you asked: Yes, even if I lived in a country where I had to pay 50k for a Covid vaccination I would rather go with that than with a chute for my plane. But obviously the choice for the vaccination is not that simple if it’s 50k+ …

Unfortunately I have to agree – but what is most shocking for me is that in Switzerland it is not a small group of politicians which is failing, but the entire population as a whole: I can’t count the number of messages from Swiss colleagues I got so far “If you can’t do your Xmas-party in Germany, why not just come visit us in Zurich. Not a problem here as everything is open”.

I sincerely hope for the Swiss that the situation at the hospitals are not getting worse. There will be very difficult situations when they ask for help from German hospitals amongst the border. I have lots of friends and family there and the mood in the German population is very positively described with “They are having party all night but when they have a hangover they want to vomit into our front yard”.

If you believe data, it isn’t. If you believe the yellow press, the end is near.
