Printing services

I just spent almost an hour trying to get an online quote for simple printing and binding of a 200-page EASA easy access rules PDF to be printed on normal 80 gsm paper with a simple thermal binding. I want to get the PDF printed as I find that despite iPads etc I still read the best from a printed medium.

Can anyone recommend an online service? The online services that I have found all want to offer fancy printing on at least 110 gsm silk paper and 300 gsm page for a cover which I don’t need.

I am very tempted to just get a thermal binding machine for £30 but I would have thought that someone would offer some basic printing online (remember those simple print shops in the old days?).

For this I use my local University (Students Association) printshop. Spiral binding for around 20€, in color! Try if you have the same.

I also like paper, but I gave up using it for EASA. Things change constantly.

It works for a 1971 C150 POH though.

Contact a local printshop, email or phone, and get a quote. Part of a franchise chain or independent.

Not used any of that recently, London used to be full of shops offering it…

Thanks for the responses. After calling different local printshops and also a student association printshop and some more googling and calling, I did find https://printpond.co.uk/ which is an online service that provides a lot of flexbility and configuration options and does not try to sell you services for a presentation-style booklet.

205 pages printed double-sided on 80gsm A4 paper of which 6 are in colour + cover in colour on 300sqm cardboard with thermal binding came to a total of around £18 including shipping. Will report back how the print result is in case anyone is interested.

It’s been a while, but I used doxzoo (https://doxzoo.com/) to do a decent amount of printing (5-10 orders) and was very happy.
Also, slightly tangentially, can recommend pc2paper (https://www.pc2paper.co.uk/) for print+post.

Thanks, I tried doxzoo but they did not have the option to print the most of the pages in B&W (which they were to begin with) and just a couple in colour. I contacted their customer support this morning and they did not have the ability to manually override that. They told me it’s a binary decision, i.e. B&W or colour for the entire document. Choosing the colour option would have raised the cost from £18 to around £40.

BTW, the document I ended up printing was the latest version of PANS-OPS Vol. 1 in case anyone is wondering about the B&W/colour combinations.

Plenty of small contract printers around depending where you are, although it can all be done by mail. they are all struggling for business and would jump at this but dont go to the hight street or usual on line suspects unless you are prepared to pay a ridiculous premium.

That’s what I thought and I genuinely wanted to give the job to a local shop (even if it meant a small premium) but they didn’t seem that keen overall in terms of service and attitude – maybe business is still good enough in SW London.

My Alarm sounded: Someone mentioned Pans Ops! Where did you get the latest Pans Ops?
