Looks like someone evaluated the risk of a non-secured mat going into a tail rotor and thought “yeah ok that’ll do just fine”.

As you can see in the end of the video, lot of emphasis on Hi-Viz jackets and maybe mandatory PPR to get “familiar with the new work on the ruway !”, the actual infrastructure is very light, runway state is poor and landing zone is on budget…

Here is another one, again in UK

Never understood why sending Vulcains & Vctors all the way to Port Stanley, 20 aircrafts with nerdy fuel plan & rendez-vous (close to Apollo11 complexity ), a single Vampire with ferry tank could have done a better job?

Did they have a couple of Vampires in working order, going spare? And even if they did, could the Vampires have carried the necessary bomb load?

I cringe at the thought of that asphalt being blown up into the horizontal stabiliser on the Vampire!

No. There was no precision bombing technology available, and I believe the Vulcans dropped a stick of 21 bombs on a diagonal to have X% probability of cratering the runway where X is some acceptably high number. The only way to do it with a Vampire (which would have been limited to what, one or two bombs?) would have been to fly down the length of the runway at zero feet = PROB90 shot down.

The Vampire in was not even loaded, it still did load of damage to make Halfpenny Green runway U/S for months…just one or two TnGs at full power MTOW on Port Stanley would have been enough

Knocking out Stanley was critical as the Super Etendards couldn’t operate. More amusing the nuclear V force had to raid old museums for the bomb sights!! No need for laser precision during a LABS strike.

The Vampire in was not even loaded, it still did load of damage to make Halfpenny Green runway U/S for months…

The runway ( East/West into prevailing wind) has never returned to service .

That video is ridiculous – it was a poorly made “helipad”.

Reportedly the hospital staff have complained that air ambulance is not able to land there afterwards – as if a helicopter cannot land on grass

If you take a closer look at that video, it appears that the landing area is grass and that the “matting” is for access to the landing area – presumably by staff with stretchers/trollies/equipment for patients etc.
