Experimental ADDS website is being shut down / main ADDS site is down

I don’t know how many people use “this backup site”: found at http://weather.aero, directly or via web scripts which get data off it and re-display it.

It is being shut down in June 2015.

Practically all European TAFs and METARs come from ADDS in the USA. Some commercial wx repackagers get it from Eurocontrol via a VPN connection, which is perhaps more reliable (because you get it raw, not as HTML and have to strip off font specs etc) but it costs a lot of €€€.

The main ADDS site is here

If I understand them correctly, all the data which could be taken off the experimental site can be accessed via the operational site.

They even offer to help people with the transition:

All products, services, and tools from that domain will be unavailable after the shutdown date. Please take the time to ensure that you have transitioned all of your users (including any automated scripts) to the Operational ADDS web site before the Experimental site is turned off. Operational ADDS technical support will be available to assist you with the transition.

It’s a shame no one has a RESTful API for getting metar/taf/other weather data

That is my understanding, and experience, too. Actually I had never heard of this “experimental” site, but I have been taking data from the operational site for many a day. It still works perfectly this very day. Thank you, Uncle Sam!

autorouter’s API does, including geo selection. Fed by ADDS every minute. Users can request API access.

Does anybody know where https://www.ippc.no/ippc/aerodromes.jsp does take TAF from? The reason why I’m asking is that for some airports (e.g. LQSA or LJLJ) they return TAF NIL while autorouter, http://www.aviationweather.gov or http://www.checkwx.com get proper info.

The normal ADDS site is down

https://www.aviationweather.gov/adds/metars/

Error 500.

It has brought down a number of other sites.

Seems to be back on line now but there are still problems with many aviation weather apps

It looks like whatever they have changed has broken most parsing code out there, with some sites showing a TAF (for some airports only) and not a METAR.

A search e.g.
https://www.aviationweather.gov/metar/data?ids=egkk&format=raw&date=0&hours=0&taf=on
is comprehensively broken.

This one http://www.orbifly.com/member/metmap.php is broken, too apparently.
