Has the FAA done a deal with EASA to do ramp checks on N-regs?

This is not specific to Hungary, it’s based in EU law. If you want a reference, Council Directive 2009/132/EC Title II Chapter 1 Personal property of natural persons transferring their normal place of residence to the Community, unless I’m mistaken. As always, if it’s a serious concern, consult a professional.

Well after reading that gobbldigook I understand why they need to be driven around in black sedans with blue lights on their roofs along with at least two police cars for escorts. As some have done reading the “holy books”, one can make reading EU law ones life mission and still be ignorant.

Is it just me, or do others associate the words “pilot papers” with negative iron-curtain or even nazi connotations?…. I see it a lot on this site and it never fails to make me bristle….especially in the context of being ramp checked by someone in a menacing uniform and a side-arm and being asked to “show me your papers”…maybe it’s because I am not from Europe or former repressed state where perhaps such expressions have been used for many decades…. Or maybe it is deliberate to convey some sort of subliminal anti-authority message….To me they are licences or certificates…or even “aircraft paperwork”….not “papers” (shiver)….

Since I am the one who uses that term, I assume you are having a go at me.

I use it only for brevity. “Papers” instead of

  • licenses
  • ratings
  • medicals

Nothing subliminal. Just saves typing.

Not “having a go” at anyone…maybe it is just me…I personally don’t like the term….most probably couldn’t care less I suppose

I will try to use “paperwork” next time.

I agree AnthonyQ, but let’s not forget who actually started the EU in the first place after the Second World War….. research that and it might make you shiver.
For those of you interested third country licences in Europe are accepted for another year until 8th April 2017. This is directly from the commission with the draft made law by parliament earlier in March. It’s a pity that others posting on here with supposed ‘insider knowledge’ couldn’t have been a little more forthcoming and helpful to their fellow pilots, regardless of what licence they hold. Pretty sad really, after all what is the point of this forum if not to assist your fellow pilot.
The new date of 8th April 2017 isn’t derogation specific meaning that all in Europe can take advantage of this new rule. Please don’t post otherwise on this forum as this is directly from the people who wrote it, I have it in writing from them.

If you have a letter from the EU, and it doesn’t say “not for publication” (such a condition in an official response would he highly disingenuous) then please post it.

I get loads of emails (from my website) from pilots asking about a reference for the derogation/delay/whatever and I say to them that an actual reference is hard to find, and I point them to the EuroGA forum

As it is in the form of a personal email to me I am awaiting authorisation to publicly post it from the politician who wrote it, and as a courtesy I will not be posting it until they agree. I am assuming it could be early next week before I hear back.

In French using the term “papiers” is quite common, but as far as pilot and aircraft are concerned, the term “documents” is more common.
