Lenticulars, sheer waves or mountain waves?
Seems more sheer due to wind & inversion?
Spotted this one yesterday. (Before another day of total white-out today)
40cm of fresh powder this morning. Skiing yesterday was amazing.
This is reportedly from Colorado
today’s flying in the Alps wasn’t for the faint hearted, the Mont-Blanc not too inviting
Absolutely unbelievable pics!
What a privilege to be able to do this.
What a privilege to be able to do this.
Yep Peter, fully agree. Not only me, in close proximity to a fantastic playground, but all of us here, on EuroGA, flying for a hobby and pleasure. Privileged is just a word, realizing the meaning of it and how fragile the equilibrium is another facet…
The time of year when we start seeing these over here. I was tempted to go a lot nearer but got a Negative from my wife.
That is spectacular. Is it some kind of vortex?
That is a funnel cloud: cumulus gets very horney before the thunderstorm
They are rarely associated with a horizonal wind vortex, it’s more related to atmoshpere instability: condensation of moist vertical updrafts & windsheer with converging temperature and dew gradients
Like Ibra said, a funnel cloud. The ones that don’t touch down are not that dangerous for vessels, those who do more so. We expect to see relatively many this year, as they are fueled by high sea temps and that’s what we are having. Record breaking temps into the low 30’s. For those of you who like to swim, you’ll be fine way into October this year, maybe even early November.
