Greek airport strike

Here.

I wonder if such an airport sell-off is a good idea. It will either result in the closure of all Greek airports which do not have holiday airline traffic, or it will result in them trimming their costs to something reasonable (you don't need 4 CAA employees, plus all the others, at an airport which gets 1 x commuter turboprop and a few GAs per day).

The ferries go "everywhere" and are cheap but provide a poor service because you can easily spend a whole day on the ferry.

But then the history of airport management in Europe is awful. Empire building goes on everywhere. For light use, you need only a runway, a small building, and minimal staff. You don't need ATC with its inevitable very high costs, and in fact some Greek airports (LGST, LGKC) don't have ATC.

The high profile airports "on sale" deals come packaged in with smaller ones less or non profitable ones like the ones you mentioned. They will never close. Simply if they are not sold or if the combination package proposal does not work the smaller ones will remain as is run by CAA.
