ForeFlight (merged thread)

Hi @martin-esmi,

Yes, ForeFlight can do this. With NOTAMs that do not automatically include shapes or airspace information in the NOTAM text, we have a manual correction process. We’ll get that corrected today.

How are polygon shapes done? We have discussed this so many times over the years. There is no machine parsing which is 100% reliable. It seems that those selling satnav apps in Europe have somebody sitting there and – with the help of a script for parsing the usual formats – they process them manually. They do this for the major markets of the app, so e.g. nobody will be doing it for some polygon based notam in Greece, because (a) nobody there uses the app and (b) even if they were, they are not going to report back to the dev.

Could this also be done for the EGLF and EGLK ATZ areas? ForeFlight has these as complete circles which overlap whereas the AIP is clear on them not being overlapping: https://www.aurora.nats.co.uk/htmlAIP/Publications/2020-04-23-AIRAC/graphics/153318.pdf

The Local Flying Area (LFA) for EGLK on the other hand is shown correctly.

Thanks

Hi @Peter,

Yes exactly, there is no system that is 100%, however we have experienced a high rate of accuracy. You are correct that no system is 100% and we have a Data Operations team that is able to adjust these shapes, add new shapes, and connect to existing airspace. NOTAMs are written by humans so there will need to be a human correction.

Hi @wbardorf,

We can absolutely report this to Jeppesen for correction. Slightly different than the NOTAMs, but if you ever see airspace like this, we can report it up and it is usually corrected quickly (usually a data cycle). The best way to report these issues is via [email protected] and we will create a case. In the meantime, I’ll create a case for the ATZs you mentioned so we will get that reported today. Thank you for letting us know!

Thanks @Josh_Tahmasebi_ForeFlight for giving feedback. Do I understand that this was a “manual” bug then sort of? Just wanting to be re-assured that the way SkyDemon visualize should be the normal also for FF.

Cheers

Yes. We manually process NOTAMs AIP Supplements mentioned in the text. Typically these are completed before the AIP SUP goes active.

Now it looks much better!

That is impressive – reported at 1136 and fixed by 1811

Indeed! Getting nice support from their official support channel too. So well managed.

Thanks @martin-esmi. We appreciate that!
