Yes – the only way to reduce costs of Jepp data is to use only portable client devices. If you want a panel mounted display (certified) then you have to pay the full price.

Yes, I only use it on an iPad now. Have the Garmin (ie AIP) charts on the panel mount as a backup.
Chartview on G1000 when available and paper for DES and ALT otherwise, and iPad with JeppFD as backup or for unforeseen diversions.
