WX1000+ installation manual, and heading over RS232, or ARINC429?

Hello. Do anyone have WX1000+ instalalation manual?
I need to find if its possible to fead heading via rs-232…
It is P/N 78-8051-9160-4.

Your model does not support heading via RS-232. It needs to be connected to an HSI such as the KCS-55A system with the bootstrap function. I have the same version of the WX-1000+. I have attached a copy of the IM. I wanted to attach it to my G500TXi, but it is not possible because Garmin does not support the GAD43A feature that provides the equivalent signals. It has provisions for them, but they don’t work and Garmin says it is not supported.

You can probably get an RS232 (whatever protocol it is; “RS232” is just an interface) to X/Y/400Hz converter. ARINC429 heading to X/Y/400Hz would be easier I would think.

The avionics business is full of these converter boxes; Shadin used to do a lot of them. Not cheap unless you can pick one up on Ebay.

What is the RS232 heading coming from?

Peter,

I looked long and hard for a converter that would work. No joy. The GAD43E specification and interface provides for such a conversion, but it simply does not work. Garmin refuses to support it as it is not mentioned in the STC for the G500TXi. It needed an AC reference, which was easy to add, but never got a heading on my Stormscope to work. Others have tried, also no joy.

If you have the RS232 data stream spec, building a converter to X/Y is “just some electronics”. Not trivial; probably a week to design it. But you would never be able to legally install it

Hi Peter. Heading will be now form G5/GAD29B. I can see that there no sufficient converter….
Do you know if wx1000 will work w/o heading info at any limited way?
If you have one “illegal” converter for sell- I’m interested :)

I can see that I can cut jumper “heading source connected”. We will see :)

AFAIK, WX1000 will work without heading input. Only, if you have a strike in front of the plane, then turn 90°, the WX1000 will still show the strike in front of the plane. Clear the screen after every turn…

So this will be solution until I will get good wx500..

Anyway https://easyeda.com/kenjewell/Arduino-ARINC is interesting project. Could be base for home-made arinc to anything converter.

I spent weeks with the Avionics shop trying to find a way to get heading to my WX1000+ from my G500TXi. The GAD43E specifies a converter, but it doesn’t work with a WX1000+. I even added an AC source to the installation, no joy, I searched the internet for converters, they were all super expensive or simply not available for sale. I would have easily paid $1500 for a working converter from serial or ARINC 429 heading source to Arinc 407 XYZ. BTW, I owned an avionics shop and worked closely with the shop. Garmin refused to help, said it was not part of the STC. So now I am looking for a WX500.

I turned off heading input in my WX1000+ for now.
