I have recently been experiencing intermittent AHRS issues on my DA40 G1000 (not NXi) and wanted to see whether anyone has experienced similar symptoms and what the resolution has been:
- Issue starts becoming noticeable that despite being in straight-and-level flight, the pitch attitude shown on the PFD starts continually moving in one direction (either increasing or decreasing) and reaches as much as -/+12 degrees pitch. There is no issue with roll indication, heading indication and no GPS issue.
- After about 30 seconds, the PFD AI is replaced with a red X, showing “ATTITUDE FAIL”. At the same time, the AUX system page shows the GRS77 Xing out, followed by the GMU44 Xing out.
- The PFD then shows “AHRS ALIGN: Keep Wings Level”. After keeping wings level for about 45 seconds, the AHRS reinitialises and attitude and heading are shown again normally (and correctly).
The G1000 flight logs on my SD card confirm the same, i.e. a sudden steadily increasing or decreasing attitude in one direction. I have not been able to spot anything else unusual in the G1000 flight logs.
Reading some other forum posts, I am asking my A&P to check the connector and wiring harness and clean the connector pins to see whether that makes a difference before considering replacing the GRS77. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms? If yes, what helped getting it resolved? Any ideas?
