I am assembling some tools needed to do the Annual check (previously I had only tools for the 50hr check).
One thing I need to get is a really good "pop rivet" (blind rivet) gun which works well and doesn't suffer from the rivet's mandrel getting stuck inside it.
A few months ago I was re-doing the engine baffles and spent most of the time extracting the spent mandrels out of the gun. And yes I was using the right size gun collet etc.
I have a feeling I may have to buy the tool from some specialist supplier in the USA...
Looks a bit strange to me - I owned two of these and have used one or two more, all different, none of them a major tool brand. None suffered from this problem.
The Stanley one Gloster Airparts are the UK agents for specialist aircraft tools. I have a old FACOM 'Pulled' riveter and find it excellent also. The advantage of the Staley is it has a swivel head allowing you to get into difficult places. When the mandrel snaps it can leave an edge which stops it falling out, just continue to pump the handle and the cams work down the remaining mandrel and it will fall out. On a few occasions it requires to push with another mandrel.
