Oxygen generators

This is a whole new take on “oxygen generators”

I believe the F16 and other military jets use oxygen generators but I don’t know what chemical reaction they use.

This has just appeared. It is to do with the G5

Their website doesn’t say how much power it draws from a DC supply.

@Peter

Fighters use “OBOGS” as everything in the military needs an acronym.

They run off the bleed air and scrub out the nitrogen and other gasses, leaving more or less pure oxygen. They aren’t “generators” as such.

The F16 one is impressive

Peter, they exist for several years. It was discussed on this very thread in 2018.

Do you manage to power it / keep the battery charged through a standard aux power outlet?

Lots of them for sale on ebay, at prices down to 1000€.

The bigger ones need quite a bit of power, and the “cheap” ones don’t do the higher altitudes.

An o2 generator is a good solution though if you do a lot of that flying as in e.g. paradropping and this is what the “proper” ones were aimed at.

My G5 has a 6 hour battery pack, and it can be charged via a 12v “cigar” outlet. I just leave it in the aircraft plugged into power, and grab the cannula when I want to “get high.”

If the price is coming down that much it might be a good idea to get one for the “co-pilot” as well.

Fly more.

OK, so it cannot be charged by a 24V aircraft? Or can it?
