Aspen E5 - another non-TSO but STCd product

Thank you for that. And who’s initiative would that be ? Is it Aspen that asks for an amendement ? Assuming they are the STC holder…

It won’t require a new STC but the current one may need amending to a higher revision level. Just like physical aircraft modifications, software changes also have Major and Minor classifications depending on what’s been changed. Significant changes to functionality can drive the change to Major which would then require the STC approval to be updated.

$ 500 extra gets you air data. Pretty good deal it seems.

E5 now includes HSI!

What did it have for navigation display before if not a HSI?

Apparently the E5 is now EASA approved.

Thanks!

I asked Avidyne and they say IFD 540 has STC for G5. And that there is no need for STC from Garmin (?). No Field approval needed. Did not know that and maybe the Avionics shop isn’t updated on the Avidyne STC. I think the STC for the G5 HSI came in June this year.

Anyway, still interested in Aspen E5 (But the HSI….)!

Our HSI just broke so lets see if it can be fixed or if we have to upgrade.
