Portoroz LJPZ (Piran) Meet-up 5-7 Sep 2015

Correct – sorry. So LDSB closes 1400 UTC. Greece is UTC+3.

The current MSLP for Friday shows an improvement. I will decide when I see the IR image whether to fly straight over the Alps, or around them to the SW i.e. via Nice (that requires FL150 due to Nice airspace). However I will probably file the latter route tomorrow, because early filers are less likely to get Eurocontrol slots. The distance is about 850nm but there will be an awesome tailwind

I’m coming Saturday morning. See you in Piran.

LDZA LDVA, Croatia

Direct route

Route via Nice (the one posted above)

Flying the latter one at FL150 will give a lot more tailwind. But Nice won’t allow FL100 anyway…

(shoreham nice)^2 + (nice portoroz)^2 = (shoreham portoroz)^2

Well, that’s the plan, anyway…

Hello,
We will delay our departure to Saturday for family reasons.
We don’t see too good forecast Saturday on the Alps and Portoroz .
We might choose plan B: Calvi first and then Brac where we could meet those going there.
We won’t have time to go to Greece either, we plan to stop in Venezia and cross the Alps back to Belgium.
We’ll be three on board, Philippe, a pilot, Francine my wife and myself.
Fly safely

Hi Peter, interesting decision making!

You might try to reroute while airborne based on the actual IR sat images.
Not sure if you can negotiate major shortcuts once your path is clear.

BTW: The ADL120 now has support for IR sat overlay, see here

Sure; I will go for shortcuts as far as possible.

I should have the Thuraya XT phone working (50kbits/sec) and I can get radar, sferics, sat IR, even Telegram on that – all for $6/MB The only issue with it is that it cannot access a certain wx site and I believe this is due to the MTU. It works with another private site whose MTU has been reduced to 1300.
