Remembrance Sunday 2014

I had hoped to fly in for the Remembrance Service but was completely fog bound at Shobdon till late afternoon. Right down to the ground and approx. 1200ft thick. Couldn’t see the other side of the runway from the café.

Well, over here the day of Armistice has been made a genuine public Holiday – nobody’s working here on 11 November, except of course those who have no fixed days off – nurses, police, fire brigade, ATC, train and tram and bus staff, doctors, cabbies, the lot… Myself would make a pilgrimage to Tyne Cot cemetary, where my godfather was a gardener, if I wouldn’t be working too, more than likely.

But what exactly is this Remembrance Service?

Hi Jan

Sorry for the late reply.

The Service is to remember members of the Armed Forces who lost their lives in active service. There is a parade, laying of poppy wreaths, 2 minutes silence and the last post is plaid to end the period of silence
