Skiing in Austria (merged threads)

I’ll be arriving in Zell am See Sunday, March 20 and plan to leave on Friday, March 25.

Flying weather for this weekend still looks quite good (though frankly, getting there a day or two earlier would be even better, but I think I can’t). Weather for the return trip around Easter looks not so good but I think I’m willing to risk it, as I’ll have loads of buffer days (counting from Friday to Wednesday, actually).

As I’ve booked accommodation already with some friends who are mostly getting there by car, I’ll definitely go, even if flying should become unrealistic in the end.

I may fly to LOWZ on Sunday for a weekend bimble. Perhaps we meet for an afternoon coffee?

I need a bit of advice…

I am looking for a location where one can get a nice long easy (green) downhill run, say 10 mins, taking one back to the start of the ski lift. I got that at Grand Bornard but don’t really want to go back there again for a while.

This sort of thing (1st half of the video is just the ski lift i.e. potentially boring)

Is this possible near St Johann, Zell am See, Lausanne or Sion (yes those two are not Austria )

On Kaprun I see only much steeper runs, plus reportedly hard (icy) snow.

Near Zell am See, you’d rather want to ski at Schmittenhöhe (the ski resort next to the town of Zell am See, a 10 minutes walk from the airfield). IME they have more blue slopes (the easiest category in Austria) than Kaprun.

Anyone interested in Schmittenhöhe this weekend or early next week?

Snow looks good.

Zell am See LOWZ is just around the corner.

I’ll be in LOWZ for coffee this Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately no skiing, as I need to earn money again on Monday

Looks OK.

The airport webcams are obviously dark now; are there any others which I can look at tomorrow morning?

What does that mean? It’s not standard TAF code, is it?
