Oaksey Park EGTW

I have been meaning to visit this airfield for ages, but never got round to it. So last Sunday we went having arranged to have lunch at the very pleasant pub in nearby Oaksey village.

This airfield is a real find; the 1000m long grass runway is billiard table smooth, so well maintained that it would be rude to use anything other than very gentle braking unless you have to. Parking is by a row of Chestnut trees, a short walk to a lovely club house and a very warm welcome from the airfield operator who charged an entirely reasonable £10 landing fee. He even gave us a lift to the pub in an immaculately clean Jaguar.

The airfield is just South of Kemble so circuits are always to the South on 04/22, there is a North/South runway that can be used by arrangement if necessary.

This part of England, the Cotswolds, is characterised by the use of Cotswold stone for all buildings and the village of Oaksey is very typical. The Greyhound, where we ate splendidly, is a typical English country pub with a bit of chic about it. We walked back to the airfield, about a mile along a quiet country lane, only seeing one car the entire way.

The airfield is home to a classic aircraft restoration company so also worth visiting during the working week. Well worth a visit!

Oaksey Park is indeed a great little airfield. The club house is fantastic and really does have a “club” feel to it with big comfy arm chairs and the like.

From what I remember the North/South runway is a one way affair so as not to conflict with the Kemble circuit.

On a related note, what is the deal with ICAO identifiers for small unlicensed strips? Does one apply for a code or are they assigned when certain criteria are met such as having an A/G station?
