Flying near Tokyo

At The end of August I have to go to Tokyo for business. I have afew days off and it would be nice to fly in the Tokyo area. I googled for aeroclubs and searched at other forums. But nothing came up except some dead links. Does anyone have experience with flying in Japan?

I tried approximately a year ago, but was unsuccessful. The Americans don't let you on their airbase (Yokota) unless you have a DoD identification card.

Maybe you manage to organize something with AOPA Japan (http://www.aopa.jp/).

There is very little GA activity in Japan, apart from Helicopters doing aerial work, I've seen maybe two piston airplanes during a week with great VFR weather the whole time.

The local "GA" airfield for Tokyo is Chofu, to the west. About 15-20 minutes by train from Shinjuku, and then a hop in a taxi. There are a few more to the north but they are just too far out - 1.5-2 hours just to get there.

Never tried to fly from Chofu, so no idea how to get a ride in something.

Thanks for the hints. If it gets to complicated, I will leave the idea.

I'll post any outcome.

I stumbled on the following article:

I sent the email to AOPA.
