A little day trip from Shoreham to Alderney.
Freezing morning at Shoreham (0C) but a nice +10C at Alderney. Fog bank moving into Shoreham so I didn’t waste time getting out.
Eurocontrol IFR but filed for FL040, flown at 5000ft which is Class G so London Control tossed the flight plan out, so a quiet flight, with handovers to Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney.
50 minutes airborne time (TB20).
For the time of the year, I was surprised at seeing quite a lot of stuff on Alderney was open. Lots of shops; we had a nice lunch (not airport junk food) at the Bray Hotel.
What really surprised me is the high cost of the commuter flights to Alderney – over £300 for a return ticket to Southampton. This is astounding, given they have five flights a day, with ~18 people on each.
