BGSF Kangerlussuaq may close within five years due to climate change

Source: https://www.ch-aviation.com/portal/news/83749-kangerlussuaq-greenland-to-close-within-five-years-report

The article specifically only mentions the closure for commercial flights, but does anyone know if they plan to keep it open for lighter aircraft? I guess a cracking runway isn’t good news for any plane wanting to use the airport.

I wouldn’t believe a word of that and in any event there’s an ambitious plan to enlarge the runways in lulissat and Nuuk to accommodate medium range airline traffic and to install a 799 m runway in Qaqortoq.

That would be highly improbable: getting that crack in the middle of the runway

Ramboll prepared a report in 2018 for Greenland’s Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure with five scenarios for Kang assuming proposed runway extensions at Nuuk and Ilulissat go ahead (pdf link).
