Short and depressing trip EDDS to EDME

While the weather was excellent yesterday we took our chance for a short trip to Eggenfelden. With two bicycles on board we intended to go from the airfield to the town cycle a bit along the river Rott and fly back to Stuttgart after having a coffee or a lunch at Eggenfelden. We heard that the Pizzeria at the field should be good.

After one hour of flight we arrived at Eggenfelden. The Pizzeria was closed although officially the lockdown starts tomorrow, not on Saturday. So who cares, we took the bicycles and cycled to Eggenfelden. Not much to see, but the ride was nice and the town itself is a typical one for that region.

But although the weather was so good that one could have had lunch outside in the sun, every restaurant was closed. In this town they started the lockdown two days earlier then in any other place in Germany. So as we had nothing to do and to see anymore, we departed back to Stuttgart. This time we passed Munich in the south and get a nice view on Munich town.

At EDDS we got a direct approach to runway 25 and this gave us a really close view of the castle Teck.

All in all it was a nice trip but depressing because of the complete shutdown of the social life. I hope this will end somewhen, so that it will be possible again to enjoy flying and meeting people.

Thanks for the report
Eggenfelden has never been a tourism hotspot to my knowledge. We flew there many years ago and took a taxi to town. The lady who was driving spoke lower Bavarian dialect and asked what we intended to do in town. We said we were tourists. She looked a bit bewildered and replied “Turisdn kimma zu uns sonsd koane!” (Tourists normally don’t come here)

Sorry for your failed trip. At least it cleaned the engine before a break.
Here, two days after lockdown, everyone was out and wandering (shops closed)
