Fantastic writeup! And an amazing journey too. Thanks!
Great stuff. Looking forward to the other parts.
When you have time; I would be interested in the aspect of getting permits for Greenland, Canada and USA for non-certified aircraft. How does that work?
@boscomantico that part was no big deal. For homebuilt, you don’t need any permits for Greenland. For Iceland you send an email and pay a fee – it takes only a couple of days. For Canada you email the details and pay a fee and this took about a month to be approved. For FAA you apply via the AWC portal and this took about 3 months.
It was all in the AIPs. Alternatively you could just not bother, no one looked at any documents for the whole trip in the end.
very nice, thanks for sharing!
What a specular trip, and the photos are just out of this world!
Thanks for sharing them with us!
You’re far braver than I in doing such a trip!
Did you have any problems trying to keep your gear in the passenger footwell away from the rudder peddles?
Regarding this photo

Did you have the co-ordinates in your GPS, or just happened to spot it in the wilderness of the ice cap?
@dublinpilot Glad you have enjoyed it so far. I added mounting points to the floor so I could strap luggage down in the footwell, this kept it well clear of the rudder pedals.
I had a waypoint set for DYE-2. I couldn’t tell if there was cloud over the ice cap so I didn’t expect it to be visible. It was very surreal when I did spot it.
Wow! Just Wow! David
Amazing pics and story – thanks and hats off to you ;-)
Ah! We wondered how you got on…we had a quick chat with you at the pumps at Perth before going in the other direction for lunch in our RV6.
Great report, great pics
Spectacular. Can’t help but notice you running Skydemon on your secondary devices – how well did it work on your trip?
