Aero Friedrichshafen 2015 15-18 April

This is standard practise at all busy airports and this is how they maintain separation on the ILS.

I guess I don’t usually fly to airports which are busy in the central European sense.

ESKC (Uppsala/Sundbro), Sweden

We have arrived at the show 5 dates after leaving Thailand. Great trip so far despite some significant headwinds.
The arrival at EDNY today was straightforward, slot and flight plan all held up despite us arriving 45 minuets earlier than our slot start..

We are staying at the Comfort Hotel, and plan to attend the dinner tomorrow night, and wondering if anybody staying at the Comfort wants to share a Taxi to the restaurant? We will probably plan to leave the hotel around 6:30pm.

Cheers. E

Something else must have gone wrong in your case. ATC (at least in central Europe) does not cancel FPLs due missing airport slots. At least I can’t believe it.

You will have to believe it because the records are in the system. ATC/AIS suspended the flight due to not matching slots. We have the logs. It’s really nasty. If you come VFR without a flight plan, they don’t do that and they let you just land because EDNY wasn’t really busy. I spoke to a few pilots who came without slot. Peter’s flight plan was suspended because his ETA did not coincide with his slot (which is BS because flight plan ETAs are not precise at all for our aircraft). Another pilot had his IFR flight plan suspended because he did not have a slot at all.

They’re trying to solve a problem that doesn’t exist (limit traffic) and it’s only a job creation scheme, nothing more.

Some pics from the show, so far (spent most of the time socialising )

We sat inside an old (=new for the show) Mooney model. I had a look at the TKS panels and how they change the aerofoil. This is the tail:

As regards their crazy slot enforcement policy, clearly one needs to hack the flight plan so the ETA ends up within the slot time – regardless of whether you think you will actually make it. Probably the best way to do this is to hack the aircraft speed in the FP to be very low – say 120kt for a TB20, in still air – and then you have some leeway.

It is a crazy system because GA planes are performance limited in every phase of flight (except possibly the descent) so compliance with slots is illusory. So forcing the FP to hit the slot is just sticking the middle finger to the pilot, saying “we can do this because we own the air and you can go and screw yourself if you don’t like it”.

Is that aftermarket TKS installed by Airplus on the mooney ?

Seems to be rather poor integration…

Was nice to see some of the regulars here on thursday.

LSZH(work) LSZF (GA base), Switzerland

I still have today.

I might see if I can get inside the PC12. The Pilatus “salesman”, yesterday, said to a prospective customer that he can see the inside but only from the outside… Some of these “salesmen” need retraining.

On the outbound leg (Thursday) Zurich put a CTOT restriction in for me which was only 10 minutes, they obviously thought I was going to arrive early which was probably true as I had built in as bit of leeway. In the end we arrived at 11.54Z for a 12.00-12.20 slot. As others have said it was very quiet at this time. Chris Parker in ZLOJ was about 10 mins behind me.

Departing this morning I filed for 08.20Z for a 08.20-08.40 slot. Got a CTOT for 08.28 with taxi time of 0008 therefore EOBT 08.20! Two problems this morning, it was a total shambles getting from security back to the aeroplane. No minibuses, waited ages for a full size bus which then went over to Messe first despite lots of people protesting. When I finally got to the aeroplane it was fairly stuck in soft ground, two of us couldn’t move it. A transit load of arrivals was flagged down and about 6 of us got it out. By this time it was 08.15!

What an unnecessary palaver.

Oxford and Bidford

My departure today (1400Z) was very smooth. The bus left after a 3 min wait and took me to the aircraft, when I asked for the IFR clearance they asked back whether I agree to VFR in which case I could leave immediately due to 2 airliners. I said I was not familiar with the VFR procedures and he responded left turn on 06 and leave direction north. I agreed and could depart immediately. There was not too much traffic, even FIS was reachable.

There is no capacity problem at all. They could do perfectly fine without all these non working procedures they created…
