Chantilly France Beauvais LFOB or Persan LFPA

I have a friend who is a race jockey and will be riding at the Chantilly Racecourse just north of Paris for a few dates. I would love to take him out there a few times as its in the summer and the Wx should be better! It will also give me Chance to get a few more hours flying in.

I will be flying my TB20 based at Shoreham. The ideal stop location wise is Persan LFPA but it is AA only with no customs / immigration. So I guess would require a landing at either Rouen or Le Touquet to clear customs and immigration. The other option is Beauvais LFOB. Does anybody have experience flying in here? It looks pretty big and I’m not sure if its GA friendly.

Any other suggestions or advice would be great. Are there any other Paris airports which allow GA?

Beauvais is GA friendly. I’ve even been there in a microlight, though I admit I didn’t specify that on the flight plan :)
Pontoise is fine, so is St Cyr, but the grass runways get sticky in the winter.
All the charts are free on the SIA website, get a 250 000 map from there as well (not free….)

It's supposed to be fun.

I have not been to Beauvais-Tillé before (at least not by GA, used Ryanair to get there). They do have some GA, Avgas, and they have Immigration (thanks to Ryanair). It’s 48h PPR for non-based aircraft though.

All in, I think this would be your best bet. Why? Because you will need a rental car anyway, and Beauvais (again thanks to Ryanair) have plenty and comparatively cheap ones.

Persan is much closer but even just Persan to Chantilly would cost you a fortune in taxi rides. Plus, as you said, you would have to make a prior stop for immigration anyway. And you would have to be able to do the radio in French at Persan…it can be a busy place.

Wow that was quick!…thanks very much chaps. I will call them to find out about charges and if there is mandatory handling etc.

You don’t need to phone them, there is nothing about handling on the airfield chart Link

The prior notice is for parking which I expect you will need.
The cost as I recall is fairly low, you can find it on the net, this Link

Thank you Piper Classique.

I have emailed the operator who advised that the landing will be 12.95 euro

Parking is charged at 0.13 per ton/hour (first 2 free)

I asked if there was any mandatory handling….

Are there any other charges? Do you have compulsory handling agents?
We provide our own handling service: 295.44€ per turnaround
Passenger tax 2.89€ for non Schengen flights (2.23 for Schengen)
PRM 0.50€ per dep pax.

I asked if I could avoid he handling as its a private flight and was told to contact one of the flying clubs…

My french is unfortunately embarrassingly bad! And the lady I tried to speak to didn’t speak any english.

Has anybody flown in recently? What were you charged?

Thanks to Piper Classique for telephoning the airport and resident flying club to confirm.

There is no mandatory handing at Beauvais for private flights You will need 48 hours prior notice for parking.

Quick thread update… Called in at Beauvais LFOB today.

It was busy with Ryanair but very efficient. I called and emailed the duty manager [email protected] who as extremely efficient and confirmed parking and customs / immigration would be fine for a departure to the UK. (Seems they don’t actually need the 48hrs PPR for parking). They replied within a few minutes.

On arrival We were escorted to the security gate from GA Parking. There is an ops frequency which they request you contact them on once you land. Police are based in the main terminal and we were taken there by the security chap …all fast and friendly.

There are taxis at the terminal and busses/ coaches. The No12 Bus takes you into Beauvais town for 1euro each way…bargin! Its a 15-20 min trip. It Takes you into the town centre or stay on the bus one more stop for the railway station (trains to paris twice an hour). There were also coaches to Paris from the airport for around 12euro its about 50 miles.

Bauvais town was a pleasant surprise…nice main square with a few restaurants. A nice Cathedral with a clock collection and what appears to be some serious Structual issues! and some interesting architecture.

They will post the invoice so I don’t know the exact cost yet.

I contacted one of the aeroclubs in Beauvais today and they no longer do handling – sent an email to the address above and am awaiting a reply – what was the damage for handling and parking if I might ask?
