UK airfields with a half decent restaurant?

New café management at Shobdon is reportedly doing good food and currently The Aviator at EGBJ (Gloucester) is doing 2 for 1 at certain time till sometime mid March I think.

We tried the new ‘Wings’ café at North Weald (EGSX) on Wednesday last week. It’s in the south-west corner of the airfield. The girl behind the counter could not have been more welcoming and friendly. They have a ‘meal deal’ on every day apparently – we had Scampi, Chips & Salad, a cup of tea and a delicious home made apple pie and custard all for £8.95 per person. The portions were generous and we will definitely be returning. I am delighted to have found somewhere to recommend this, as I think it is a fairly new enterprise and the word needs to get out that there is an alternative option to the traditional fare of either a fry up/roast dinner at the squadron café on the northern side.

Another recommendation if you are happy with a grass strip - The Prince of Wales at Maypole. It's just a 50 yard walk from the strip (£10 landing fee in an honesty box). Have been to the pub twice, the welcome, food and setting is lovely. Sat out in the garden a few weeks ago, enjoying the last of the summer sunshine. Bliss!

If you fly in to the grass airstrip at Abergavenny (PPR required), you can walk across the road (literally) for a meal at The Hardwick. Great pub/restaurant - excellent food and service.

"just clean and somewhere you'd be happy to take a first date . . ."

The Smarden Bell, walkable from Headcorn. Very nice food.

Sywell has a nice restaurant.

But nothing beats France. Wonderful meal today at a deserted Angers.

Very sorry to hear about Calais. Great owner.

That's very sad, I won't forget the excellent time we had there recently.

Further: I have fond memories of the restaurant at St. Omer too, but it's a long while ago. And, perhaps at the limits of the original requestor, I would mention The Biggles at EBKT Kortrijk-Wevelgem (has customs, O/R I think) the restaurant was very good, always fully booked so one needs to call the evening before. But that too has been several years since I went.

Just found out from a pilot friend that visited Calais today that the restaurant at Calais will close its doors on 14th of May. Financially, the can't manage to keep the restaurant open.

L'Enclume about 3 miles north of Cark? No personal experience, but had it recommended.
