Malta Luqa LMML

thanks!

Another thread revival :)

Planning to Visit Malta / LUGA next week. Any updates on best handling agents and what mistakes to avoid? Not particularly looking to spend hours on the airport waiting to get the plane access etc.

So whats up in 2023 in Malta?

Malta / LUGA

It’s LUQA.

This is the most recent in our database (pretty fresh):

Is this crazy TM-CAD PPR still required?

Hi,
any recent experience on Luqa LMML? I am considering a flight from Madrid in my SR22, maybe in 2 o 3 months but find info in the AIP confusing. I will be doing a VFR flight and stay in Malta for some days… any advise on Handling… parking costs… ?

There are three in our database, two are very recent.

I was just there and wrote a report in the database as Emir pointed out.

Handling: DC is mentioned numerous times in the forums, but they would not reply to my inquiry. I heard they aren’t interested in small GA: I had a perfect experience with Medavia and I recommend them.

Being escorted through the Terminal through security to the plane was a very fast and efficient process thanks to Medavia.

Parking was about 15 euros a day.

There are handling costs but compensated with very cheap Jet A (I do not know Avgas price).

Big thing I think to mention: I was arriving VFR after sunset and upon approaching Malta I was told by ATC that Malta refused to accept my VFR arrival. Weather was VFR. I do not know why or if it had something to do with night time. I switched to IFR and arrived.

That’s because Malta does not permit night VFR in general. It is only permitted as local flights (departing and arriving at LMML) within Luqa CTR. Also it is not permitted at all between 23:00LT and 06:00LT. (Ref. AIP-Malta, ENR 1.2 item 1.2 and LMML AD 2.22 item 3)

It’s fair to say there is NO VFR after sunset in most airports in southern Europe, as they have to ask you to confirm you are not a drug dealer? or not hitting airliners or mountains at night? if you switch to IFR: climb above MEA or slide on ILS, ATC becomes happy

It becomes interesting when you fly from countries that allow NVFR in their aerodromes into countries that makes it difficult
They may have to accept NVFR for as per SERA for airspace transit but they still ban departures & arrivals in AD

Thank you for the explanations! I am learning so much both here and flying.
