9-10 September 2017 fly-in - Astypalea LGPL Greece

How about this for a September EuroGA fly-in? We have never done Greece, and this place is 10/10 awesome.

ASTYPALAIA AERODROME OPR HRS (UTC):
FROM 29/03/2017 TILL 28/10/2017:
MON,WED 0500-1100
TUE CLOSED
THU 0500-1000
FRI 1000-1500
SAT 0700-1300
SUN 0500-0800.

Samos LGSM has not yet published theirs (we need an overlap) but it looks OK.

There are plenty of lovely stops enroute also, which would not only break up the flight but would be great for the whole family.

Suggested dates 2-3 Sep or 9-10 Sep.

UPDATE: Where I show avgas near Athens, it is both LGMG (NOT a port of entry) and LGAV (Athens main airport). Also LGSO has avgas now but is NOT a port of entry.

Sounds amazing. I believe lots of Greeks will attend and I hope that little apron will suffice. Including me (never been there).

But let me propose Paros as well. AFIS like Astypalaia, but brand new (state) airport and much larger apron.

LGMT (Mytilene, Lesvos, Greece), Greece

Based on past fly-ins I would expect to see about 10 planes.

Of course I expect to see lots of Greek pilots. They know how to party, and the opening hours mean you have to stay overnight

I went to Paros in 2005 and it was really crowded with tourists, in September.

Maybe a Greek can phone the airport and ask for their reaction?

I’m definitely in. Greece is so close to me and I’ve never been there.

Great idea and September is the best time to vacate in Greece, less tourists, still warm sea, still warm weather.

Astypalaia LGPL from 10 years ago when I last went.

Its definitely a “laid back” airport and should be welcoming to a fly in.
Only the Olympic Bombardier Dash-100 flies there once a day. They keep this space always available plus one more for air force’s medevac helicopter which can pop in H24.

Paros LGPA old and new airports

Paros has indeed lots of tourism and the airport is not laid back; they go “by the book” with handling, paperwork etc. but still its a huge new apron with lots of capacity.

We’re in! We’ll probably stay on and charter a boat for a few days…

Way to go!
Within 25~40nm you have a dozen of the best Aegean serene (non airport!) islands/islets to visit by boat.

Looks a great place for a fly in. Unsurprisingly, not been there before
Weekend of 9-10 Sept looking good for me

Based on some feedback I’ve had, it will be the weekend of 9-10 September

I will fly Shoreham – Brac – Samos – Astypalaia, and probably Astypalaia – Samos – Losinj – Shoreham on the way back. Or one could go Astypalaia – Corfu – Corsica – Shoreham etc if you are happy with Corsica. Or Astypalaia – any Greek port of entry airport in the N Aegean – Belgrade (very cheap avgas) – …

This is not a short trip but the fuel stops are high value places for the whole family; not the dumps one usually ends up stopping in.
