Avgas (100LL) availability NW Africa (Cap Verde, Senegal, Mauritania)

Hey guys,

somebody out there who could provide information about Avgas availability for:

- Cap Verde (PRAIA GVNP, or other airfields)
- Mauritania (GQPP, Nouadhibou)
- Senegal (GOOY, Leopold Sedar Senghor Intl)

PIREPS (you-fly, eddh) seem to be outdated.

In addition, any sources to get the AIPs from these countries (other than CD-ROM…)?

Planning to follow the historical Aeropostale route down to Dakar, and if possible, proceed to one of the Cap Verde islands.

Thank you very much!

You might like to PM @vrh – or he may see this and post something

Found in Jeppesen Airway manual for Africa (issue 26 oct) :

Avgas (F3) at GQPP and GOOY.

No Avgas at any airport of Cap Verde.

Concerning GQPP, this is a better option than Nouakchott (GQNO), administrative procedures are much easier! Also much easier to get fuel (at GQNO you have to wait until all the airliners have been served).

Avgas at Nouadhibou is sure, should be ok at Nouakchott, but not 100% sure. No need to contact anyone in advance at Nouadhibou. Fuel at Nouadhibou is cheaper than at Dakhla.

Tip: regarding obtaining authorisation to fly – always mention Nouadhibou (and Nouakchott) to cover yourself. If you have to land there without authorisation, it will cost an arm and a leg. And maybe something else as well! :)

Dakar (GOOY) – this is the ONLY place in Senegal with 100 LL. Arriving at Dakhar Intl, you will usually park at J1 or J2 for administration, then you can taxi to the air club for refuelling. Sales unit at Dakar is a barrel (between 180 and 200 litres). When you buy, state you are leaving the country (for taxes, less expensive!). If this is too much fuel, contact the club May be able to give you a contact person by PM.

Cap Verde: no recent info, but have made some phone calls, awaiting replies.

Generally speaking, in S. Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal, reckon on around € 3 / litre

@ all

absolutely fantastic, valuable information, thank you so much so far!!!

Apart from Cap Verde, no problem at all, as it seems…

Hm, how about filling a turtle pac at Dakar? But then I am getting problem with MTOW (F33A), 2 POBs and lot of luggage… :(

Just had confirmation from contact in Dakar that there is no 100LL at Cap Verde.

Further, it seems that there is no local GA – the only aircraft authorised to fly from island to island are commercial services. Maybe someone else can confirm?

In case of Cap Verde: no local GA means, even no authorisation possible to land on one of their airports? Filling a 40 GAL turtle would make it possible to avoid fueling at Cap Verde and go back to Dakar – is Turtle Pac fueling possible at Dakar or will the deny?

In regard to Mauritania and Senegal: do you organise (overflight) permissions/clearances on your own (how, to whom to address to?) or do you use one of the agents (Overflight, White Rose)?

How about handling at the airports in Mauritania and Senegal?

I have been reading through the old posts – any update on sources for (eletronic) maps?

Thx again!

Visited GOOY early last year south bound to Cape Town. Avgas from barrels at GOOY but advisable to check availability in advance with handling agent. I would not anticipate any problem filling a turtlepac but likewise worth checking with handler. You need to take your own pump for transfer from barrel to fuel tank/turtlepac.

White Rose efficiently organised landing permit and overflight permission for Mauritania as well as for other countries en route.
