Flytrip 2018, help us out!

Any of the small islands with an airstrip is probably worth a visit.

ESSZ, Sweden

Is it south west or south east?
Camping or hotel?
Vejrø should be very nice https://www.vejroe.com/

Do you know what the general condition of the runway is?

Thanks

I checked how far we can go within the +/- 10h and I think we will have to limit to the area shown in the screenshot.
We can do camping or hotel. But hotel is prefered.

We checked this, I contacted them and they are very friendly. I think it would be a very nice 1 night stop, but it’s quite expensive.

About our route, probably the nicest VFR route will be the one below, flying low along the coast line of the Netherlands to Texel for a first stop. If one of the Islands north of NL is worth a visit we could make a 2nd stop (or stay there the first night).

The next day we could fly to Denmark with a stop in Helgoland, I think it’s a nice challenge and they have cheap fuel :)
After Helgoland it would be nice if we could fly from to Verjø (or something in the area) with a stop in between (to stay the 2nd night?).

I think you have chosen a nice route.
Ærø EKAE would fit well as destination. You would need to take a taxi into town where you can find hotels. (will be more reasonable than Vejrø)

AFAIK there are bicycles available to rent at EKAE.

Here are some pics I have from Vejrø, as a reference:

I planned to fly to Vejroe this summer but didn’t want to splash out on the hotel. I asked about camping and they were happy for us to camp at the marina where we could use all the facilities there as long as we paid the landing fee (which itself is a bit pricey).

A friend who went there said that the landing fee was waved if you ate at the restaurant. However I cannot find an “official” source for this.

Vejrø is the only grass strip I know that is never soft or flooded.
Regarding the restaurant, I can confirm that there is no landing fee if you eat there, but I have no official reference either. The restaurant is fairly expensive, though, but also a very good experience in every way. I was there in July.
