EBOS Ostend 6/2018 update

10 Posts

Just a heads up that there have been changes at Ostend. No more security checks on Platfom 3 – the marshaller brings you to the exit gate and lets you out, the reverse procedure on departure. Pay the landing fees to the marshaller (no cash). Right next to the exit there is a new restaurant – Runway 26-08, with not only plenty of space inside but also a large terrace overlooking the GA platform and good food as well.

As a bonus 100LL was only €2.05 as opposed to €2.79 at Lelystad EHLE and an eye-watering €3.00 at Groningen EHGG. Landing fee was €58 for an Arrow IV with 3 on board.

Just a small addition: If departing to the UK, ie. leaving Schengen, then one has to go through the main terminal with security and passport check. Afterwards a marshaller will drive you to the C-office to pay the fees and then on to the plane.

That’s correct Peter! The restaurant 26-08 , formerly “Lindberg” & “Icarus” is now totally refurbished, and just started 2 months ago. The restaurant is however landside, so for extra-shengen flights, reachable after border formalities. Prior is a brief security check before entering the commercial apron 2/terminal area/immigration office. (check with the marshaller)

By the way, this upcoming *weekend of 23/24june*, has a nice event at the seaside front promenade in the city centre, harbour: “A l’Ostendaise”. Try & taste some local (fish and other) food specialities at ‘democratic’ prices !!

Up to date operational info regarding Ostend Airport : “http://www.ostendbruges-airport.com/general-aviation/”
There’s currently some work in progress at Apron 3, building of a new hangar and facilities for a new FBO, but no restrictions for light aircraft.

Wim, what a wonderful suggestion, thank you! EUR 30 spent trying 5 magnificent fish dishes shared between 2 of us.

The procedure after arrival is indeed a little odd, with a security check required on the way out (because you have to go via the commercial apron). The return was a joy.
On this occasion, from boarding a bus at Ostend Station to arriving at the aircraft was no more than 30 minutes.

That fish food festival looked like it was fantastic.
Does anyone know if there are any nice or fun restaurants on the seaside near Ostende Airport. It looks like a good alternative to Le Touquet.

Just to let you know, there is a coastal tramline connecting all cities on the belgian coast, you can go from De Panne in the west to Knokke in the east for a fixed price of 3.00€ per hour, or 6€ for entire day on all buses and trams. From EBOS, it is about 15 minutes walk towards the beach. There are trams every twenty minutes in both directions.

There’s a wide variety of restaurants at Ostend, most of them are located at the city centre (5km from the airport/frequent public bus from the terminal), all within walking distance I would say.
Hard to name them all, but I would suggest to consult the Tourism office ’s website: www.visitoostende.be , click on the bottom of the page your desired language.
Then you can surf to “Food and Drink” and make your choice :-)

As many of you may know there is a new ramp agent at Ostend from last week.

Handling is only mandatory for 2000kg upwards, below that the rates as much the same as before, and everyone is still as friendly as ever.

The good news is that they have had a load of bikes delivered today for hire and will be available once they get some paperwork sorted.

So you can forget getting the train to Bruges, you can now cycle instead.
