Hello,
I am asking on a friends behalf for updating his Beech V35 AP
it is currently fitted with a Astrocontrol II (a slightly better wingleveler)
He flies mostly VFR with some light IFR
would would be a suggstion also in view of costs due to the way of useage
Plane is EASA reg
suggestions ? also ideas about costs? paperwork?? (hope to hear from Jesse lol)
thanks
When I was looking to do the same the shop recommended to add the STEC 30. The aircraft was fitted with Piper Autocontrol II (same as your friend’s) and the one to add was the altitude hold.
At the time the cost for this was about £7k and for a for a new unit that does both was around the £15k. I looked at my flying which is not very de-similar (did handflying several time ~1h legs inside clouds with rain and bumps) of your friend’s and decided to spend the money on 100LL.
Most people that I know upgrade to STEC 55. For more info have a look http://www.s-tec.com/Documentation/Shared%20Documents/Autopilot%20Selection/AP_Selection_Guide.pdf

If your friend only need HDG and Alt. hold
Stec 30 or 50 would be a good choice.
Someone I know had a system 50 installed in his V35 (years ago, done in Belgium) he is still very pleased.
STC List
If he wants also coupled appr. system fifty-five X , would be a better choice
other option is Century 2000 AP.
STC list
The owner of the 235 I fly has just had the S-TEC 55 x fitted. Seems a nice bit of kit.
My V35 has a Century 41 I love this A/P. Specially the F/D and Go Around modes. It most have cost a fortune to have this installed in the mid nineties by the previous owner.
Though nowadays retrofitting from cost perspective STEC seems the best option.
thank you for all the great advise
on a other note what would make sence for an update to 8,33 radio?
cost for garmin 430, 530, GTN any other ideas??
I would recommend, Peter_Paul, that you search EuroGA for 8.33. We have had many threads on various ways to achieve it.
