VFR Alps Crossing

I think there is a difference between 310HP and 250HP…

Only if they have the same weight and drag etc.

AFAIK both have the same ceiling – about 20k. Can’t do much about that one… the air gets equally thin for everybody.

More than 500fpm at gross weight and ISA at FL150. A SR22 has a lot more power than a TB20.

indeed, and thinner air even seems to help those who left their gear down …

Yes, the T182T (fixed gear turbo 182) and the TR182 (retractable gear turbo 182) have almost the same speed at FL200 whereas below, the RG is up to 25 knots faster.

Not really a different story flyer 59 – ridge orientation is similar and wind direction too. I “tested” it on the ridgelines between Bern and Geneva. Turbulence was moderate all the way up to 140.

Tomorrow, I don’t see too much Föhn anymore. Today was summer in the Munich area (27C), but tomorrow looks quite different.

However, I do see persisting fog for tomorrow…

Mainz (EDFZ) & Egelsbach (EDFE), Germany

Will report tomorrow. I think there will be a 90 degree wind from the right at FL160, up to 25 knots – but should not be too much turbulence.
500 fpm up to FL150 is not a problem at all, if i remember correctly, but will make a note tomorrow :-)

In that case just go to FL200 and not worry about it.

Oh, the ceiling is only 175, but I’d climb if necessary!
I always wondered why they restricted it to 175, but I think it’s a marketing thing to make the difference to the T model bigger.

That’s my route (live tracking)

Crosswd Alps in FL160, absolutely no turbulence although wind from 240 with 22-25 kts. Also met a pilot from Croatia at my home airport, who had just arrived in his Navajo Twin VFR. Pirep: No turbulence in FL105 either …

Flew on top in FL160 across all of Slovenia. Got a 130 NM Direct to the 05 ILS of Split and radar vectors and a perfect descent profile. All very simple and easy

Will post some pictures later, lunch now!
