VFR from Italy to Kapadokia, Turkey

This was done in 2015. I organized a formation flight of 4 ultralight aircrafts to get to Nevsheir Kapadokia.
We landed in:
Alexandropulis (LGAL)
Channakale (LTBH)
T.H.K. Inonu Airfield
Nevsheir (LTAZ)
Herzafen (LTBW)
Corlu (LTBU)

Very nice flight….

Very nice!

Where and how did you arrange fuel? LGAL and LTBH have no avgas or mogas. When I flew to LTBH, the Istanbul Aeroclub arranged everything, including an avgas bowser driven from Istanbul.

What is the latest on flying within Turkey? Recent reports have been that foreigners have to use only international airports even for flights within Turkey (supposedly to keep a lid on artefact smuggling).

We arranged MOGAS in LGAL thanks to George Tzemelis, a greek pilot we met there there in 2005 when the local aeroclub was active. It was sad to discover that due to the crisis in Greece the aeroclub was non longer active but George helped anyhow finding for us a barrel of Mogas.
The second refuelling was at INONU THK Aviation Training Center, near Eskisehir.
Then in Nevsheir LTAZ. We used jerry cans to refuel from a local fuel pump. This is a practice we often use after convincing the airport managers….
The last refuelling was in Herzafen LTBW.
We were very much helped by Erkan, a turkish ultralight instructor who know very well how to manage with turkish authorities….

Some friend of mine have flown from Italy to Sivrihisar near Eskisheir for an Airshow last month. It is a sort of private airfield. They were requested to enter at Corlu LTBU for the customs formalities.

Very nice. The view with the balloons in the air was breathtaking. How many were they? Also, your airplane has very good endurance!

Great trip! In general, some things can be complicated in Turkey but if you have local support and aviator friends, everything can be arranged, even refueling with 100LL at military airport

Indeed, but without the local contacts…?

Also most Turkish airports are now well into the 3 digit cost range… again unless stuff can be arranged. A number of pilots have flown down to Cappadocia and they spent about 1k in landing fees getting there and back. One got sand in his tanks, too, so security is important.

These posts are very valuable because they show what can be done.
